International Albinism Awareness Day - 2024 Celebration
Background: On December 18, 2014, the United Nations’ General Assembly adopted a resolution establishing June 13th as International Albinism Awareness Day. The International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) is a global day that aims at advancing the rights of persons with albinism while calling to action for the voices of persons with albinism to be heard.
The objectives for the commemorations are:
- To create awareness about albinism.
- To raise our unified voice and show case positive messages.
- To Advance dialogue among stakeholders on addressing vulnerabilities, marginalization, stigma, and social exclusion.
IAAD 2024!
2024 marks a decade since the launch of International Albinism Awareness Day! To mark this occasion, this year’s theme is “10 years of IAAD: A decade of collective progress”.
This theme invites us to:
- Celebrate the strides made within the movement, with renewed commitment for the future;
- Highlight the tireless efforts of albinism groups from around the world;
- Reflect on the continued legal, policy and practical changes still required to ensure the full and equal enjoyment of rights by persons with albinism.
The Organization for Integration and Promotion of People with Albinism (OIPPA) in Rwanda is hosting this important celebration along with all stakeholders, its members and team to reflect on the long journey advocating and fighting for the wellbeing of persons with albinism in our areas of intervention. The celebration will take place in Kigali on the 13 June 2024 from 7:30 AM. Everybody is invited to celebrate with us.
